The Road to Terry - 044 - Jerry Seinfeld's Wisdom
I just listened to the Tim Ferris podcast and Jerry Seinfeld was on the other side of the microphone. I’ve always been intrigued by how Seinfeld thinks. His comedy often reflects the thoughts in my own brain. My spiritual practices overlap with his. I just feel we have a few things in common.
He gives some advice to the world during the show. The creative process should be outlined to a determined time every day. In order to be great, you have to put that time in. I’m going to get back to that process. My plan is to spend 1 hour per day working on music, and I will spend another hour working on marketing. The music is the guarantee right now. Marketing may or may not happen because music is more important. He also states that creatives should treat their creative process like a baby at first. After the thing is made, they should give it a day and treat it ruthlessly when going back to it.
I understand exactly what he’s saying. I make something, step away, and then I edit it. Sometimes I never return to the draft because it’s not good. Now it’s time to systemize things to get better.
