Get cast in podcasts!
A different and fun way to promote your brand and music is through podcasts, being guests on others’ shows and gaining new followers, but how do you do that?
WordPlay T. Jay produces his own podcast and has recently been a guest on other podcasts as he promotes his catalog and brand. In those recent interviews, he has jotted a few tips for how to get booked on a show.
“Artists don’t have to work that hard to get on a podcast, and it’s not difficult to do,” T. Jay said.
Firstly, T. Jay suggests doing research on which type of podcasts you’d like to be on, and consider your other likes and hobbies outside of music and how those can be integrated. Your love for something like drawing, technology or entrepreneurship may strike a chord with a podcaster separate from your music.
Once you have the research done, you have to get access to host or booking contact information. Larger podcasts can be more difficult. You can try things like messaging a social media page or email, but for smaller podcasts, there is a better way.
“Go to www.podcastguest.com and sign up for their weekly email of podcasts looking for guests,” T. Jay said. “The website has about 30,000 users, and you can sign up and create a profile for podcasters to see and possibly use you as a guest.”
The weekly email has links to podcasts searching for guests, and when you click the link in the email, you will be taken to a Google form to complete.
It’s important to let the host know you will promote the show in some way. Podcasting with guests is partially a networking tactic, as the podcaster will give you some new exposure, so you should return the favor and try to get the podcast some new exposure. There is a give-and-take there.
T. Jay said the service is definitely worth it, and he has gotten multiple bookings from it recently.
