Walk-through of new process to claim Google Knowledge Panel
A common marketing and promotion tool for artists is the Google Knowledge Panel, which has changed its verification process recently, and WordPlay T. Jay is here to walk you through how to do it.
Knowledge Panels aggregate information about public figures by using metadata and Google searches to pinpoint relevant information and package it in a box for display when the figure’s name is searched.
Google’s spiders crawl across the internet looking for information, and when it finds info on a specific figure, it indexes that info for use in the panel. Some of the main info in a panel is the figure’s name, website, albums or songs, social media sites, etc.
Those who do not have a Knowledge Panel but wish to get one should check out this video for more about how it works.
In this instance, T. Jay is walking through how to navigate the new claim process.
First off, you have to be the person in the panel or be a manager for the person in the panel. Here is the step-by-step process:
1. Log into Google via Gmail, search the person you wish to claim, then click the “claim” at the bottom of the Panel displayed.
2. Click “Get Verified.”
3. Verify you are the right person and are authorized to claim the panel as the person or brand manager.
4. Tell Google why you are claiming the panel and provide a legitimate reason, like to improve marketing or promotion.
5. Verify your identity by following the steps provided by Google, such as taking a selfie with your ID and submitting proof of management with a business agreement or license.
6. Verify you have control of the person or brand’s account by following steps set forth by Google, including things like screenshots of being logged into social media accounts and other listed requirements.
